How to add a signature to a PDF

  1. 01

    Open the PDF

Drop it into the tool above. Guests and free accounts can open PDFs up to 10 MB. Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.

  2. 02

    Choose your signature

Draw one, type one, upload an image, take a photo, or pick a saved signature. The signer prepares it for you.

  3. 03

    Place and size it

Drag it onto the line, then resize and rotate. Guides snap it to page edges and centres, and you can hold Alt to turn snapping off.

  4. 04

    Add the rest

Use the Add menu for initials, your full name, a date, free text, or a check or cross mark. Undo is there if you misplace one.

  5. 05

    Download

Download the signed PDF. Your signature is an overlay, so the document's text, fonts, and bookmarks stay as they were.

More than just a signature

Real forms ask for more than one mark. These all use the same placement controls.

Initials

Add initials beside each clause or at the foot of a page. Create them once and reuse them in the same session.

Date

Add today's date as a text stamp and drag it next to the signature. It is written in a standard PDF font, so it stays real text.

Full name and free text

Type your printed name under the signature, or add a short line such as a role or reference number anywhere on the page.

Check and cross marks

Tick a box or strike out a line. Marks scale cleanly and rotate with the same handles.

Placing it precisely

Touch and mouse behave the same

The drag, resize, and rotate handles work with a finger as well as a mouse, so you can place a signature from a phone.

Keyboard nudging

Select a placed item and use the arrow keys to move it by small steps. Press Ctrl or Cmd with Z to undo.

The signature is on top, not baked in

Because it is an overlay, the page underneath stays selectable and searchable. You can also add the same signature again if a document needs it twice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a signature to a PDF without printing it?

Open the PDF in the tool above, add your signature, place it on the signature line, and download. There is no printing or scanning step.

Can I add a date next to my signature?

Yes. Use the Add menu and choose Date, then drag it into position. You can also add free text, your full name, or initials the same way.

Does it flatten or rasterize my PDF?

No. The signature is placed over the page and the rest of the file is kept, including its text, fonts, bookmarks, and metadata.

Can I add a signature to several pages?

Guests and free accounts can sign single-page PDFs, up to 10 MB. Multi-page signing is part of the Pro plan, which also raises the PDF limit to 100 MB. If your file has several pages and you only need one signed, split out that page first.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Your PDF is read and signed inside your browser tab and is never uploaded to our servers, whether you are a guest or signed in. The only file we ever store is a signature you choose to save to your vault after signing in.

Can I fill in form fields with this?

PureSign places a signature, text, and marks on top of the page. It does not detect or fill a PDF's own form fields, but the Text tool lets you type into any blank on the page.
